Serene Bedroom Mural

When we think about our bedrooms, I think we all envision a safe sanctuary that we rely on for our energy and sanity. At the same time, we want it to reflect our personality in a way that brings us comfort when we finally lay down each night. When I spoke to my client Kim about painting her bedroom, we discussed various design options with a similar underlying theme: serenity.

Kim’s room is quite large and she was desperate to bring life to the walls which she was having trouble deciding on how to decorate with framed art alone. Every wall in the room held various open wall space, all interrupted by a door frame, window frame or closet, leaving no large continuous wall which would be more ideal for a framed piece of art.

While Kim knew she wanted a mural, she wasn’t sure how to envision it through the space. I suggested that we wrap it around the main 3 walls of the room to be immersed in the effect of the abstract, wavy pattern I was striving to create for her. This way, no matter where she turns she is surrounded by the calming strokes.

Kim agreed, and I’m so glad she did. Each time I post about this piece on Instagram, Kim does not hesitate to remind me how much she loves waking up in her bedroom every day. And better yet, she thanks me again and again for working together to create art in her home. It’s so sweet that it brings a tear to my eye.

Working with a client as generous as Kim is not something that happens every day. Beyond loving the piece I created for her, I am simply grateful for the experience of working for someone so sweet and genuinely appreciative of the creativity I shared with her.
