Boho Beach House: Entryway, Kitchen, & Hallway
I know we’re coming off the bold, bright Sunny Loft Bedroom reveal, but I promise there were some real beautiful gems in the kitchen and entryway of the house. Make sure you check out my last couple posts on this project The Process, B&W Master Bedroom, Seaside Living Room and Sunny Loft Bedroom for some context! The posts following this one will feature the details of every other room in the house.
BEFORE
These photos were from before the renovation! Gina and her husband had a lot of amazing work done on this kitchen in addition to the rest of the house. The kitchen, as you’ll see in the “after” photos, was completely recreated with beautiful countertops, light tiling, new floors and applianced. Gina also got a new table for the space next to the bar, so that was in place when I arrived as well.
These photos were from after the renovation, when I first arrived to the house with a blank canvas to begin with. The last photos in the series below also shows the entryway near the front door.
When I arrived, I was “living” in the house for a few days as I built my list of necessary items. I noticed immediately how desperately the front door needed a coat rack, shoe rack, key rack, and mirrors. So I focused on finding those items throughout the 2 weeks. I chose slowly and carefully for these, rather than running off to the store to knock them off the list. I styled a stunning rattan mirror I found at Homegoods (similar linked here), simple shoe rack, key rack and coat rack the clients already owned. This area right in the front door was screaming for a beautiful floor mirror and this mosaic side table (similar linked here), which I also found at Homegoods.
Now let’s talk about the upstairs hallway and bathroom quickly before we move onto the kitchen, because it’s just a simple few pieces that elevated the space. Right at the top of the stairs is an open landing with a low wall that overlooks the front door downstairs. It’s flooded with light from a large window in the front of the house, and I didn’t want that space look empty when there was such a great opportunity to fill it. I found an amazing oversized rattan floor vase (similar here) with fake palms (similar here) at Drift Ashore thrift store that fit perfectly and immediately brought color to the space.
The hallway then splits to the left and right, leading to either bedroom with the bathroom right in the middle. Each open wall was screaming for something, Leading into the king size room to the right, I chose a gorgeous hand painted beach sunset painting by an artist the owners had previously purchased from. The frame was outdated, so I gave it a facelift with a light creamy coat of spray paint. In the other open space, I filled it with a simple wood edged mirror from Ikea.
Finally, let’s talk about the bathroom! While it’s nothing show stopping, it’s still worth it to note how a simple curtain and wall decor can elevate the small space immediately. I found this amazing shower curtain at Target that simply fit the vibe of the rest of the house. Later, I found a bright, tropical printed canvas at Homegoods which I hung over the toilet. Then I created a simple tropical watercolor lead design and placed it in a frame the owners had sitting in a closet. Easy, simple, and basically free!
Okay, let’s move onto the dining area. This area was so fun to style, because it didn’t need much to look like a high end bohemian kitchen. The owners recently got this beautiful table with a dark wood top and white washed base, giving a true beach feel. The open wall behind the table needed just a few things to fill in the gaps. I found the round wall hanging at Homegoods, which the beads and driftwood accents seemed to fit too perfectly. Of course, I can’t find anything quite like it online but here is something that could have worked just as well! I also was so excited when I found this white natural wood ladder (similar here), which I styled with a tan fringe blanket (similar here) from Homegoods. I styled one of my thrifted floor vases and pampas grass in the corner to fill the gap where the bar ends and the wall begins. For the table centerpiece, I found a white washed long bowl (similar here) at Marshalls which I filled with bohemian accents from Dixie Cottage, a boutique in St. Augustine. The dried artichokes and boho fringe beads were perfect and looked so stunning in the bowl. Lastly, I styled the end of the kitchen countertop with a long dark wood produce bowl and a tall white asymmetrical vase (similar here) and dried palm branches from Homegoods. I did a whole video on TikTok about how to style vases like this, so check it out for more details!
And finally, the kitchen! There’s not much to say here, other than that the owners did a fabulous job with their renovation. The new cabinets, tiling, countertops, and appliances make all the difference. I found them a beautiful marble utensil holder, paper towel holder, oil dispenser, and corner decor bowl (similar here) to fill the gaps in the counter and simple needs for any kitchen. I also found them these wonderful stools from Target, but they had not arrived by the time I left so unfortunately I did not get any photos of them!
I am so pleased with how all these areas turned out. The small details made all the difference, especially since these are the spots in the house where everyone will gather. From entering the house to sitting down for dinner, each area is important to feel cozy and welcoming.
