a new ‘hood, a new living room mural

As sad as I was to leave my old apartment in the LES, I was really excited about the blank canvas that awaited me in Greenpoint. I really loved the colors (inspired by this rug) of the gradient sunset mural in the old place, so I knew I wanted to keep the fun and colorful vibe for my new apartment.

I used the following colors from my OG, go-to: Benjamin Moore.

comet, cayman blue, blue lace, fruit punch, rhododendron, peach pudding, apple crisp, wheatfield, ryan red

I was very drawn to these leafy, floral shapes that felt very natural and kind of funky all at once. I liked the idea of using them to fill up the walls because it allowed me more freedom to explore the walls without painting every single inch. And, if and when I decide to add more color to the rest of the apartment, it makes it easy to pull various shapes from this design to bring the whole space together.

As one of the walls of the mural shares a wall with my bedroom, I wanted to incorporate this grayish-blue color I used in the bedroom mural so that when the door is open it doesn’t feel like such a heavy contrast. I love how it flows from the calming energy of my bedroom into the vibrant vibe that is my living room.

Overall it was really cool seeing how I grew from my first ever mural experience to this one. I felt way more decisive and swift in executing the mural because I’ve learned so much in the last two years bringing mural magic to other peoples’ homes.
